Wrestling the Devil?
They said: Among the myths that the Prophet of Islam told his companions is that he wrestled with the devil and strangled him until he felt the coolness of his tongue between his two fingers.
Then he wanted to tie him to one of the pillars of the mosque, but he left him because he remembered the supplication of Solomon....! They related this with two hadiths as follows:
The first: Musnad Ahmad, No. 11354, on the authority of Abu Sa`id al-Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, stood up and prayed the dawn prayer, and he was behind him. He recited, but his recitation became confused. When he finished his prayer, he said: “If you saw me and Iblis, then I would reach out with my hand and continue to strangle him until I felt the coolness of his saliva between these two fingers of mine, the thumb and the one next to it. And if it were not for…” My brother Sulayman’s prayer has become tied to one of the pillars of the mosque, and the children of Madinah play with it. So whoever among you is able to ensure that no one stands between him and the Qiblah, let him do so.” It was authenticated by Sheikh Al-Albani: In As-Silsilah As-Saheehah, No. 3251.
Second: Saheeh Al-Bukhari, Book of (Interpretation of the Qur’an), Chapter on His statement: {Grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower}, No. 4434, on the authority of Abu Hurayrah, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, who said: “A demon from among the jinn spoke to me last night, or said a word to that effect, in order to interrupt my prayer. [6:08 PM] Then God gave me power over him, and I wanted to restrain him.” To one of the pillars of the mosque until morning comes and you all look at it. Then I remembered the words of my brother Solomon, “My Lord, grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me.” He said, “A spirit.” So He sent him back, defeated.
The response to the doubt
first: What I understood from their question from (the first part) is: Does the jinn devil take on the form of a body so that the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, could wrestle with him...?! The answer: Yes, and there is no problem with that; Satan came to the Prophet Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace - in an embodied form here... and he came in the form of an Arab man when the polytheists wanted to kill the Prophet Muhammad at the beginning of his mission... and he appeared to Abu Hurairah in an embodied form... and he appeared to Jesus according to what is mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew; when he took him and tested him... and he appeared to Adam and Eve in the form of a snake... in the Book of Genesis, and this is confirmed by theologians... God gave the jinn the ability to take on several forms... and there is nothing strange in that, for if our eyes do not see that today... then they see animals and insects that completely change their shape and color, such as: the chameleon and some butterflies... and therefore: their objection is purely an objection to the texts of religions that confirm it and do not deny it... so the first to object from the missionaries are the atheist sect; who do not believe except in what they see, and deny the texts of every religion...! As for what I understood from their question from (the second part), it contains a hint of mockery and ridicule about the cold saliva (tongue) of the devil that was on the hands of the Prophet Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace -..
Answer: Yes; they are surprised, mock and ridicule that Satan has saliva, although he is a created being... and they are not surprised, mock and ridicule that the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in them - Jesus according to their belief - has saliva, feces and urine....?!
Second: After the explanation and evidence were made... an important matter caught my attention that contains slander...! The missionaries object to the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of God be upon him); because the Prophet (peace and blessings of God be upon him) wrestled with Satan in the form of a human and defeated him, but they do not object to the Prophet Jacob (peace and blessings of God be upon him), to whom the Holy Book attributes that he wrestled with the Lord of the Worlds in the form of a human; he defeated him and was victorious over him to the point that the Lord cried out and said: Let me go...!
Genesis 32:24 And Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until the break of day. 25And when he saw that he did not prevail against him, he touched the socket of his thigh; and the socket of Jacob's thigh was dislocated as he wrestled with him. 26And he said, Let me go, for the day is breaking. But he said, I will not let you go unless you bless me. 27And he said to him, What is your name? And he said, Jacob. 28And he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.” 29And Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” And he said, “Why do you ask my name?” And he blessed him there. 30So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel, saying, “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
I said: According to the narrations, Muhammad (PBUH) defeated Satan, grabbed him and almost tied him up... But those texts say: Jacob (PBUH) defeated God in wrestling and tied him up....!!
Here are questions that have exhausted me related to the Lord's wrestling with Jacob, and his request to release him after the defeat because dawn had risen...! What is the relationship between the rising of dawn and the Lord's desire to leave... The Lord begs Jacob to release him before daybreak... And in the end, the Lord blessed him unwillingly, and named him Israel... ?!
Why was the Lord afraid of daybreak (the appearance of the sun)...?! Would he have burned up as happens in fantasy movies (Dracula and vampires)?! Is the Lord so weak that a human being would defeat him, tie him up and take the blessing from him by force...?!
Was the Lord ignorant of the name of Jacob whom he is supposed to have created...?! 27 And he said to him, "What is your name?" 28 And he said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
And lest it be said that God was not a human when He wrestled with Jacob…! I said: This is refuted by the texts themselves that confirm that the Lord was in the form of a human when He wrestled with Jacob…! “24 And Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him until the breaking of the day.” No comment!
