Why does Islam allows cousin marriage?
Cousin Marriage
Cousin Marriage is one of the most criticized topics against Islam, yet it has such a simple refutation
Firstly, let's clear something out, Islam doesn't mandate or even promote cousin marriage, it merely allows it.
Secondly, Criticism done against Cousin Marriage is done from either a Biological Point of View or a Moral Point of View, Addressing either is quite simple.
From a Biological Point of View, the difference between cousin marriage and marriage of distant pupils is that the offspring of cousin marriage has higher risks of developing genetic conditions or congenital anomaly Looking into numbers we see that 97% of children of unrelated parents don't have issues and 95% of children of first cousin parents don't have issues Now does this slight chance of harm mean it must be illegal and immoral? 100% not, not everything that slightly increase risk of harm (1-2% harm increase) has to be illegal or immoral. Let's give an example, Fathers over the age of 35 have a 5% more chance of having kids with congenital anomaly. While Fathers over the age of 44 have a 17% more chance of having kids with congenital anomaly and specifically 60% chance of having kids with chromosomal anomalies. **Do we see any doctor or biologist attacking Old Males forcing them to not have kids? absolutely not. **
Now from a Moral Point of View, People in regards to Morality are either Objectivists or Subjectivists. Subjectivists cannot force their subjective morals onto anyone, objectivists have to prove that the Objective Moral Ruling of Islam from the One True creator is false. (they can't)
Lastly, there's something that's pretty funny, christians and jews attack cousin marriage, why don't they first attack Abraham?
Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife. (Genesis 20:12)
