Islam Believing in Flat Earth?
Scholarly Consensus
Prominent Scholars Like Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Abu Muhammad ibn Hazm affirmed that the Earth is round and reported a consensus among early Muslims on Earth's Roundness. (Majmoo' Al Fatawa [25/195 and 6/586])
They cite evidence from the Qur'an, Sunnah, and scientific observations supporting this view.
However, due to its vast size and curvature it appears flat to us.
Muslim scholars widely agree that the heavens are round, with consensus from prominent figures like 'ibn al-Munaadi, Imam ibn Hazm, and ibn al-Jawzi; supported by well-established chains of narration from the Sahaabah and Taabi'een, as well as by evidence from the Qur'an, Sunnah, and mathematical reasoning. While some debated for the sake of argument, no respected scholar has definitively denied this.
What does the Qur'an say?
"He created the heavens and the earth for a purpose. He wraps the night around the day, and wraps the day around the night. And He has subjected the sun and the moon, each orbiting for an appointed term. He is truly the Almighty, Most Forgiving." ~ [az-Zumar 39:5]
The word yukawwir ("wraps around") means to make something round, like a turban. It is well-known that night and day follow one another on earth, which implies that the Earth is round, because if you wrap one thing around another thing, and the thing that it is wrapped around is the Earth, then Earth must be round.
